![]() ![]() It's very Buddha to me-'Parabola'-"This body holding me reminds me of my own mortality. Refreshingly traditional electric guitar work.Ī little over long and new agey but the band is tight and don't insult the average intelligence. Keep playing for the 6:33 long vocal-free guitar jam 'Triad' that follows. Just hearing a genuinely tasty little guitar solo again is a nice change as they are unfashionable nowadays. I'd suggest fast forwarding to the 5 & 1/2 minute mark where the song picks up some steam. The soft music of the 40's, 50's, and 60's is the perfect music for me to have playing on the patio when I have company, and in my home when I am cooking and doing housework. I was delighted to find that they are now available on CD. 'Reflection' was the standout track for me once I fast forwarded through the first 3 & 1/2 minutes of the repetitiveness, which I think is meant to be hypnotic/medatative but is actally a little boring. Years ago I purchased the two cassete version of 'Moments to Remember' but lost them in several moves to new homes. I came to appreciate the first 2/3 of 'The Grudge', The 'Parabol/Parabola' combo and mostly 'Reflection', as well as other bits here and there. I thought Tool did 'climactic moments' well. But it did grow on me and there was obviously a lot of work spent of the concepts and compositions. I was disappointed and sarcastically commented that Metallica had met Pink Floyd (I don't really know Metallica though having only briefly owned the 'Black album' and not liking it). I had been a fan of Tool's 'Undertow' & 'Aenima' and actually thought they broke up or something such was the length of time that had passed when I saw 'Lateralus' in a store and bought it. ![]()
